Favicon generator
A favicon is not one file any more. This makes the whole set browsers, Android and iPhones actually ask for, and hands you the few lines of HTML to point at them. Start from a square picture with bold, simple shapes, because most of these end up tiny.

What sizes do I actually need?
A favicon.ico containing 16, 32 and 48 pixel entries covers browser tabs and bookmarks, a 180 pixel PNG covers the iOS home screen, and 192 and 512 pixel PNGs cover Android and the web app manifest. That set handles every current target without shipping a dozen files.
Is favicon.ico still required?
It is no longer required by browsers, which prefer the PNG links in your markup, but crawlers and older software still probe the site root for it. It costs a few kilobytes to include, so there is no real reason to leave it out.
Why does my logo look like a smudge at 16 pixels?
Detailed artwork does not survive that scale. Use a simplified mark, a single letter or a bold shape for the small sizes rather than the full logo, and check the preview at actual size rather than zoomed in.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The whole thing runs inside the browser tab you already have open. Your file is read straight from your own disk, worked on there, and handed back as a download. Nothing is sent anywhere, nothing is stored, and there is no account and no queue.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page has loaded once. The engine is cached by the browser, so you can turn off your connection, reload the page and keep working. That is a useful side effect of doing the processing locally rather than a separate offline mode you have to enable.
