Questions about mute video

Does muting change the video quality?

No. The video stream is copied frame for frame into a new container and only the audio track is dropped. The result is visually identical to the source and slightly smaller.

Can I get the audio back afterwards?

Not from the muted file, because the track is gone. Keep the original if there is any chance you will want it, or extract the audio to a separate file before muting.

Why would I mute a video rather than just lower the volume?

Background conversation, copyrighted music and location noise all stay in the file when you only lower the volume, and anyone can raise it again. Removing the track is the only way to be sure it is not there.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The whole thing runs inside the browser tab you already have open. Your file is read straight from your own disk, worked on there, and handed back as a download. Nothing is sent anywhere, nothing is stored, and there is no account and no queue.

Does it work offline?

Yes, once the page has loaded once. The engine is cached by the browser, so you can turn off your connection, reload the page and keep working. That is a useful side effect of doing the processing locally rather than a separate offline mode you have to enable.
